AMD Ryzen 5 2500U Review - Mediocre or Good?

Presumably, the AMD Ryzen 5 2500U is not “a performance monster”. Since it has the “U” letter in its name, we all know that it has been designed to achieve some level of power & cost efficiency. The letter “U” stands for the "APU" and APU is the technology that is utilizing CPU and GPU together to achieve more complicated tasks. So it is like a hybrid processor. Yet, like all the “U” models, the AMD Ryzen 5 2500U is considered less powerful. Actually, at the moment it was introduced to the market, it was the weakest item of the same product line in terms of overall specs. On the other hand, despite the weaker architecture this processor clearly offers more than users expect.

So now let’s take a closer look and see what architecture is behind the AMD Ryzen 5 2500U model.

Firstly, it was devastating for some people to hear the news that Ryzen 5 2500U is carrying the Vega component that uses DDR4 memory instead of HBM 2. But the unique architecture of the Vega seemed enough to compensate for this.

What AMD Ryzen 5 2500U Offers?

HP Envy x360 modeli üzerinde gelen AMD Ryzen 5 2500U modeli bazı testlere tabi tutulmuş. İşlemci tarafında oldukça iyi skorlar alan APU, grafik tarafında ise bazı önemli rakiplerini geride bırakmayı başarıyor.

Integrated on the HP Envy x360 model notebook, the processor went through some tests. The benchmarks showed that APU technology worked very well for many challenging tasks. It actually has beaten the competitors belonging to the rival company, in terms of both CPU and GPU scores.

AMD Ryzen 5 2500U, comes with 4 cores and 8 threads at a base clock frequency of 2.0GHz. Of course, it has the boost ability and with this, the processor can work at 3.6 GHz maximum speed. This boosted speed usually depends on the condition that affects the cooling system. On the graphics side, there is a Radeon Vega 8 Mobile unit. The unit, which has 512 Stream processors, can go up to 1.1GHz. Its thermal design power is 15W. With 256MB DDR4 memory, a total bandwidth of 12GBps can be achieved.
