NAS Compares is pleased to announce the upcoming RS2821RP+, an enterprise-class rackmount NAS storage solution from Synology. The device is reportedly based on AMD hardware platform. The new product is built in 3U form factor. It is said to use Ryzen V1500B processor, which combines four compute cores (2.2GHz) with SMT. DDR4 ECC memory will be 4GB expandable to 32GB.
There are 16 3.5" hot swappable drive bays. There is a PCIe 3.0 x8 expansion slot, into which an optional adapter for M.2 SSD modules, say, can be installed. The storage has four RJ-45 1GbE LAN network ports and two USB 3.0 ports. Dimensions are 132.3 × 482 × 656.5 mm. The cooling system uses three 80mm fans.
The Synology SA6500 and Synology FS6600N storage units were also mentioned, but their release remains unclear. Presumably, these devices will receive an Intel Xeon processor and 10Gbe ports.
