MSI showed the AMD X670 dual chip chipset live for the first time

MSI showed the AMD X670 dual chip chipset live for the first time

MSI showed the AMD X670 dual chip chipset live for the first time

MSI in its online broadcast MSI Insider showed the AMD X670 chipset live on one of its motherboards without a cooler installed for the first time.
It really consists of two chipsets.
Earlier on AMD itself confirmed that its high-end chipset is a bundle of two AMD B650 chips, but the company did not show them live.Image source: MSII earlier confirmed that Ryzen 7000 systems will receive AMD EXPO technology to overclock DDR5 RAM, and also published a video instruction to install Ryzen 7000 in the new socket AM5.
AMD itself doesn't seem to like that its partner is so straightforward in disclosing this information.
Apparently, at Computex 2022 AMD only wanted to share some fresh details about its next-generation desktop processors, as well as the platform in which they will be used.
No full-fledged announcement, at least now, was out of the question.
It is expected this fall.
After all, under AMD pressure MSI had to remove some previously published information.
However, the manufacturer did not give up any fresh leaks, and the last one was live, where MSI was showing different products which are about to be released.
The new AMD platform uses Socket AM5 (LGA 1718) processor socket and will support chips with a peak power consumption of 170W.
First generation of Socket AM5 processors will be based on Zen 4 architecture, and will have support for DDR5 memory and PCIe 5.0 interface.
Motherboards for new processors will be equipped with AMD X670E, X670 and B650 chipsets.
The first and second are logical sets, consisting of two B650 chipsets.
They will support up to 24 lanes of PCIe 5.0 for graphics and memory subsystems.
X670E and X670 chipsets have 7 W heat pack per chip, and X670 boards with two chips moved away from each other are quite able to get by with passive cooling, which would be hard to achieve if all these chipsets possibilities were realized in one chip.

Gigabyte shows Aorus Xtreme, Aorus Master, Aorus Pro AX and Aero D for Ryzen 7000 processors

Gigabyte shows Aorus Xtreme, Aorus Master, Aorus Pro AX and Aero D for Ryzen 7000 processors

Gigabyte shows Aorus Xtreme, Aorus Master, Aorus Pro AX and Aero D for Ryzen 7000 processors

Computex 2022 is in hybrid format and TechPowerUp got a chance to see live the motherboards that Gigabyte prepares for upcoming Ryzen 7000 processors.
The manufacturer brought four models to the event: X670E Aorus Xtreme, X670E Aorus Master, X670E Aero D and X670 Aorus Pro AX.Image source: TechPowerUp / GigabyteGigabyte plans to release many more different board models, including those based on the AMD B650 chipset.
But their appearance will have to wait until the Ryzen 7000 series release.
Some models based on B650 will be as expensive and equipped as lower-end models based on AMD X670 chipset.
By the way, it should be recalled that AMD X670 and X670E chipsets essentially consist of two B650 chips.
The difference between X670 and X670E chipsets, at least according to Gigabyte, is a PCIe 5.0 compliant x16 slot for graphics cards.
Gigabyte X670 Aorus Pro AXThe youngest of the boards shown by the company was the X670 Aorus Pro AX.
The manufacturer also plans to release an Elite-version of this model, the Pro version will cost less.
There is one PCIe 4.0 x16 slot, one PCIe 4.0 x4 slot and one PCIe 3.0 x2 slot.
The last two of these slots are the same as the first x16 slot, so there is also one PCIe 5.0 M.2 slot and one PCIe 4.0 M.2 slot.
It has two USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 Type-C (20Gbps) connectors.
One of them is displayed on the front panel, the second is displayed on the back.
There is also USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C (10Gbps) port, but the manufacturer does not specify whether it supports DisplayPort alternative mode.
Gigabyte X670 Aorus Pro AXThe X670 Aorus Pro AX has a 16+2+2 power sub-system (each phase is rated at 90A), 2.5 Gbps network adapter managed by Intel, Wi-Fi 6E module, six SATA III ports, several USB Type-A ports and one DispalyPort and HDMI output each.
A pair of 3.5mm audio jacks and one S/PDIF jack are in addition.
There are also half a dozen connectors for additional fans, BIOS reset, start and reset buttons.
You can expect to pay just over $300 for this board.
Gigabyte X670E Aero DThe X670E Aero D, like previous Aero boards, is targeted at digital content creators or those who want fast memory subsystem capabilities.
It's equipped with a PCIe 5.0 x16 slot.
In addition, this is the only board from Gigabyte that offers USB4 support.
The ASMedia ASM4242 controller provides two USB4 ports on the back panel.
They also support DisplayPort alternative mode and Thunderbolt 3.0 standard.
Gigabyte X670E Aero DThere is also one M.2 PCIe 5.0 slot and three M.2 PCIe 4.0 slots.
Gigabyte let us take a picture of the back of the board, which shows the SMD components of the two X670E chipset chipsets on the left side, surrounded by four heatsink screws.
Gigabyte X670E Aero DIn this novelty, the company has also introduced a function of quick video card removal with a special mechanism with a button.
This was first seen on the ASUS Z690 for Alder Lake processors.
The X670E Aero D has the same lower two slots for PCIe x16 as the X670 Aorus Pro AX.
And in the rest of its features the model is similar to the board above.
Gigabyte X670E Aero DThe nice addition here is the POST codes indicator as well as a small design element in the form of a leather tag with the inscription Aero on the upper M.2 radiator.
The X670E Aero D will cost under $400.
Gigabyte X670E Aorus MasterThe X670E Aorus Master board doesn't get USB4 support, but has two M.2 PCIe 5.0 slots.
The model has a 16+2+2 VRM power subsystem.
Each phase is designed for a current of 105A.
The heat sink with heat pipe on the power elements draws attention.
But otherwise this model repeats characteristics of X670E Aero D.
But different USB Type-C options with transfer rate of 20 and 10Gb/s are available here.
Gigabyte X670E Aorus MasterThe 10Gbps USB Type-C port supports alternate DisplayPort mode.
The expected price of the X670E Aorus Master will be slightly lower than the X670E Aero D at around $360.
The X570S Aorus Master for the Ryzen 5000 was released for about the same price.
Gigabyte X670E Aorus XtremeThe X670E Aorus Xtreme, representing the senior segment.
It uses the same VRM power subsystem as the previous model.
The biggest difference is support for four M.2 PCIe 5.0 slots.
However, we had to sacrifice one PCIe 5.0 x16 slot for this, reducing the number of available lanes to eight.
Gigabyte X670E Aorus XtremeThe X670E Aorus Xtreme is the only board on the list to claim 10 Gigabit LAN support.

AMD introduced 600-series chipsets for Ryzen 7000 with DDR5 and PCIe 5.0 support

AMD introduced 600-series chipsets for Ryzen 7000 with DDR5 and PCIe 5.0 support

During the speech at Computex 2022 AMD CEO Lisa Su and her team announced new products.
AMD chipset 600-series and new Socket AM5 (LGA 1718), which supports processors with TDP up to 170 W, were introduced to the Ryzen 7000 desktop platform.
New platform will offer support for DDR5 memory and PCIe 5.0 bus for graphics cards and/or memory sticks.
As expected, flagship AMD X670E (Extreme) chipset will offer maximum performance and overclocking capability, it will be used in flagship motherboards.
It will also allow PCIe 5.0 to connect both SSDs and graphics cards.
AMD notes that \"PCIe 5.0 will be everywhere\" here.A simpler X670 model for \"enthusiast overclockers\" is also being prepared for release, also with PCIe 5.0 support for drives and, optionally, for GPUs.
Apparently, motherboard manufacturers will decide which interface to connect to the PCIe x16 connectors.
AMD didn't comment on the difference between X670 and X670E chipsets.
Also, B650 chipset, which is going to be used in entry-to-midrange boards, was presented.
It will only connect memory drives via PCIe 5.0 while the graphics cards will use PCIe 4.0.
Company representatives noted that the new bus will be supported by NVMe storages, already under development by Gigabyte, Corsair, MSI and others, and provides read speeds more than 60% faster than PCIe 4.0.
AMD 600-series motherboards will be able to support up to 24 lanes of PCIe 5.0 for GPU and SSD, up to 14 USB ports of up to 20Gbps (SuperSpeed USB), Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 (LE).
Additionally, it became known that the 600-series motherboards will get up to four video ports, including HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort, allowing you to connect multiple monitors simultaneously. The new socket AM5 (LGA 1718) comes to replace AM4, which was introduced back in 2016 and is still used by AMD - the last chip for it was introduced this year, it Ryzen 7 5800X3D.
The new socket favourably differs in performance: instead of PGA (legs on the processor) AMD has implemented LGA connection, when the chip has only contact pads, and the legs are in the socket itself.
As Intel has been doing since the noughties.
At the same time, the developers stressed that the new AM5 supports cooling systems designed for AM4.
It became known that the new AM5 platform also supports SmartAccess Storage technology, which is designed for \"pumping up\" the memory performance.
But AMD didn't go into details.Among the motherboard models announced at Computex 2022 are ASRock X670E Taichi, ASUS ROG Crosshair X670E Extreme, Biostar X670E Valkyrie, GIGABYTE X670 Aorus Xtreme and MSI MEG X670E Ace.

A leak has confirmed that senior motherboards for Ryzen 7000 processors will get a chipset of two chips

Following the information about ASRock and Gigabyte motherboards for Ryzen 7000 processors, which the manufacturers themselves shared and then deleted, some details about similar boards from ASUS appeared in the web.
Someone from the Chinese social network Baidu has published a picture of ASUS X670-P Prime WiFi board with the new processor socket AM5 (LGA 1718).Image source: VideoCardz / BaiduWorse rumors claimed that some older chipsets AMD 600-series, which became known the other day, will actually be a set of two chips.
In turn, the younger AMD B650 system logic will be a single chip, sort of half of a pair of chips from the senior segment.
Image in higher resolution.
Source: VaiduThe published schematic of the ASUS X670-P Prime WiFi motherboard shows the contact pads for the two chipset X670.
One of them is in its usual place on the right side of the board, under the RAM sockets, the other is located under the PCIe x16 slot.
The presence of two chipset doubles the number of supported PCIe lanes, as well as I/O interfaces.
Apparently, AMD decided to take this approach to avoid overheating of one system logic chip.
Also, on the image you can see the pin pads for two PCIe x4 and one PCIe x1 slot, 14-phase VRM and four DDR5 slots.
Moreover, it offers two M.2 slots for NVMe sticks and six SATA III ports.Picture source: AMDAlso, ASUS is reportedly preparing new ProArt series motherboards for Ryzen 7000 processors: ProArt X670E-Creator WIFI and ProArt B650-Creator.
