Cyberpunk 2077 ran on AMD Athlon 3000G PC with integrated graphics - the game turned into a set of pixels

The release of Cyberpunk 2077, which was awaited for seven years, attracted the attention of many enthusiasts and bloggers. They created dozens of videos devoted to the game, and of a variety of formats. Someone tested the project on the PC, assembled according to the minimum requirements, the other showed a fresh action-RPG in «potato» mode, and the author of YouTube Channel LowSpecGamer proved that the Cyberpunk 2077 can be run on a PC with AMD Athlon 3000G CPU and an integrated GPU.

In the latest video blogger has demonstrated how to make the novelty from CD Projekt RED run on a very weak PC. First, the author has put the minimum possible settings through the game menu. Then he began to make additional changes in the configuration files Cyberpunk 2077. As a result, the game graphics turned into an indistinguishable pixel mass. It is possible to see some objects and outlines of characters, but at most we can not count on more.

But the project is run on AMD Athlon 3000G processor with AMD Radeon Vega 3 integrated graphics. Moreover, Cyberpunk 2077 on this system was performed at 30 fps with lags up to 20–25 fps. In the comments below the video users joked that now PC owners can get a łquo;console experience» when playing the fresh action RPG CD Projekt RED.

Enabling Multithreading on AMD Ryzen in Cyberpunk 2077 - Tutorial

Users and reviewers have noticed that Cyberpunk 2077 has problems using the potential of AMD Ryzen processors, in particular SMT (multithreading) technology. This is easy to notice in the Windows Task Manager & ; the game is clearly tied to the physical cores of the CPU, not the logical cores. The problem is absent on Intel processors, which means the code was obviously not optimized for AMD processors.

User UnhingedDoork suggested a solution to this problem for enthusiasts: it seems to improve multi-threading support for the game and, as a consequence, increases minimum and average frame rate, making the gameplay smoother. The solution requires modifying the game's executable, which apparently affects how the game recognizes the processor. It is very strange that a game that has been delayed so many times has not received basic optimizations for AMD Ryzen processors. Whether this was an oversight on the part of the developers or something else remains unclear. Let's hope that CD Projekt RED can improve multi-threading support and provide further optimization not only for Ryzen processors, but also for Radeon graphics cards, on which the game still does not support ray tracing.

A quick tutorial on modifying the executable was provided by a Reddit forum member with the alias chaosxk. We do not recommend modifying executable files in any way & ; it can only be done at your own risk. However:

download the hex editor HxD; find Cyberpunk2077.exe & ; for GOG users it's in Cyberpunk 2077/bin/x64; Make a backup copy of Cyberpunk2077.exe just in case; drag and drop Cuberpunk2077.exe to HxD & ; hexadecimal numbers should appear (e.g. 01 FF 0D, etc); press CTRL + F, change the column to Hex-Values; Type «75 30 33 C9 B8 01 00 00 00 0F A2 8B C8 C1 F9 08» in the search line without quotes, these values should be highlighted; copy «EB 30 33 C9 B8 01 00 00 00 0F A2 8B C8 C1 F9 08» without quotes; back to HxD, right-click the highlighted values and select paste; go to the top panel and click the save icon.

A video tutorial for the modification has also been published. However, we advise you to wait for an official decision from the developers, and not make your own changes to the game. Recall that despite the three postponements (from April to September, from September to November, from November to December), Cyberpunk 2077 got to the release in far from ideal technical condition.

AMD introduced Radeon 20.12.1 driver with support for RX 6900 XT and Cyberpunk 2077.

AMD, together with the launch of the Radeon RX 6900 XT flagship graphics card, introduced the driver with its support. The first December driver Radeon Software Adrenalin 2020 Edition 20.12.1 also brought support for the soon to be released role-playing action movie Cyberpunk 2077 from the studio CD Projekt RED.

In addition, AMD engineers have fixed a number of existing problems:

games can hang when running on Radeon RX 6800 gas pedals at frequencies below expected; the HP Reverb G2 VR helmet did not sync or produced a black screen when running the Radeon RX 6800 graphics card; artifacts in Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege on hybrid graphics systems when using Vulkan on the extended display; problems when trying to change the resolution to a 16:9 ratio in Crossfire; performance overlay and tab «Performanceraquo tuning; misreported higher clock speeds on standby for Radeon  RX 5700 Accelerators.

AMD engineers are also working to address known shortcomings:

flickering brightness in some games when Radeon FreeSync is running in window mode without fields; On displays like the Scepter C Series or the Samsung Odyssey G9 Series, the Radeon RX 6000 Series graphics card periodically displays a black screen; display or distortion problems on the Samsung Odyssey G9 C49G95T when setting the resolution to 5120 × 1440 and 240 Hz; failures in Metro Exodus, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Battlefield V, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare when ray tracing is enabled; Anisotropic filtering in Radeon Software graphics settings is not applied in DirectX 9 games on RDNA gas pedals; boxless stuttering when connecting a second display and running the Netflix application on RDNA gas pedals; Radeon recording and streaming functions do not work on AMD Radeon HD 7800; changing the HDMI zoom slider causes the frequency to be locked at 30 frames per second; Failures on Polaris and Vega for Oculus Link users; flickering when calling Radeon Software Overlay while Immortals Fenyx Rising is running on the second display; flickering when using MSI Afterburner; performance overlay and tab « performanceraquo tuning; incorrect reporting of higher than expected standby clock speeds on Radeon RX 5700 Series graphics cards; advanced synchronization sometimes causes a black screen.

The Radeon Software Adrenalin 2020 Edition 20.12.1 driver can be downloaded in Windows 7 (64 bits) or Windows 10 (64 bits) versions from the official AMD website or from the Radeon settings menu. The new version is dated December 8 and is intended for video cards and built-in graphics of Radeon HD 7000 family and higher.
