NVIDIA was planning to release another model - GeForce RTX 3070 Ti with 16 GB of memory as part of its GeForce RTX 3000 series of graphics cards.
This gas pedal for a long time appeared in various databases of regulators, but eventually did not appear on sale.
Insider MEGAsizeGPU shared photos and characteristics of unsuccessful reference graphics card.Image source: Twitter / MEGAsizeGPUIn appearance GeForce RTX 3070 Ti 16GB was an exact copy of the model with 8 GB of memory, which eventually went on sale.
However, the characteristics of cards are different.
In spite of the fact that the 16GB version was supposed to use the same GA104 GPU based on Ampere architecture with 6144 CUDA cores, 192 tensor cores and 48 RT cores as the 8GB version which went on sale, the chip of the \"older\" model operates at slightly higher frequency range.
As you know, the version with 8 GB of memory GPU has a base frequency of 1575 MHz, and under load it overclocks to 1770 MHz.
The 16GB version of the card, which never went on sale, GPU worked at a frequency of 1590 to 1800 MHz.Cards differed not only the volume, but also the standard of video memory.
Unreleased model used less efficient GDDR6 instead of faster GDDR6X memory.
The GeForce RTX 3070 Ti 8GB model uses a 256-bit memory interface and GDDR6X chips with 19Gbps per pin.
This provides a memory bandwidth of 608 GB/s.
The model with 16 GB of memory was supposed to get GDDR6 chips with 16 Gbit/s per pin, 256-bit bus support and 512 GB/s of memory bandwidth.Unfortunately, the insider did not share the performance data of the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti 16GB.
However, the fact that the gas pedal supports the current versions of the NVIDIA graphics driver gives hope that this information will eventually be published.

AMD recommends owners of overheating Radeon RX 7900 XTX to contact tech support

AMD has issued an official comment on complaints from some owners of reference versions of Radeon RX 7900 XTX graphics cards about the graphics processor overheating.
The manufacturer recommends contacting technical support about this issue.Image source: Tom's HardwareAs noted earlier, some buyers of reference versions of Radeon RX 7900 XTX complained about overheating and high noise level of their gas pedals cooling system.
In particular, owners noted a significant difference between the average GPU temperature and the temperature at its hottest point.
In some cases the difference is over 50 degrees Celsius, with the hottest spot reaching 110 degrees.
As a consequence of this occurs trotting GPU - the chip resets its operating frequency to reduce the temperature.
\"We are aware that a number of users have experienced unexpected trotting in the reference versions of graphics cards Radeon RX 7900 XTX.
Users who encountered such a problem, can contact AMD technical support \"- commented on the situation in a conversation with the portal Tom's Hardware.According to AMD, the temperature of 110 degrees for the GPU graphics card Radeon RX 7900 XTX is acceptable.
This was reported by the manufacturer's technical support to one of the buyers of the reference version of the gas pedal, as he said on the forum Reddit.Independent analysis of the situation leads to the suspicion that the overheating of the GPU specified video card can be blamed on insufficient pressure on the contact pad of the reference cooling system to the surface of the graphics processor.
According to Tom's Hardware, this suspicion is confirmed by some owners of these gas pedals.
Disassembling the graphics cards followed by replacing the thermal paste and thermal pads seems to solve the problem.AMD itself is still collecting information on how widespread the situation with overheating of the Radeon RX 7900 XTX is.
Despite the fact that the problem is not found on non-reference versions of this graphics card, it also helps PowerColor in the investigation, collecting customer feedback.AMD did not say when they will make a full explanation of the situation and a description of the steps to resolve it.
Meanwhile, the company recommends owners of problematic cards to contact its technical support.
As writes Tom's Hardware, many did so, referring to the company or retailer where the video card was purchased for a refund for the purchase.

NVIDIA took an even larger share of the discrete graphics market - Intel and AMD have 12%

The other day, thanks to a report from Jon Peddie Research (JPR), we learned that shipments of all types of graphics processors collapsed by 25% in the third quarter.
Now, thanks to the same analysts, we know how the discrete graphics card market changed over the same period.
In short - it fell even more, and AMD gave NVIDIA a serious share of this market.Image source: WCCFTechThe discrete graphics market sagged very strongly.
In the third quarter of 2022, the supply of graphics cards was only 14 million units, a drop of 41.6% compared to the same period last year, when the supply was 24 million graphics cards.
Even a quarter earlier the situation on the market was much better - in the second quarter of 2022 was delivered 19 million discrete graphics cards.Shipments of mobile and desktop graphics cards were divided equally - in each segment was delivered 7 million cards.
However, desktop cards previously dominated the market, with 10 million desktop boards shipped in the quarter versus 8.6 million mobile boards, and 13 million desktop boards versus 11.6 million mobile discrete graphics cards shipped in the third quarter of 2021.
NVIDIA saw its share of the discrete graphics market grow to 88% in the third quarter, up 8 percentage points from the quarter before.
As a result, AMD had only 8 percent of the discrete graphics market, down from 15 percent in the second quarter.
And the remaining 4 percent was taken by Intel.
In the desktop segment, AMD is doing slightly better - here it took 10 percent.
The remaining nine tenths of the market were divided between NVIDIA with 86% share and Intel with the same 4%.
As for the mobile segment, NVIDIA's dominance is even stronger - the company owns 90% of the market, while Intel and AMD equally shared the remaining 10%.Overall supply of graphics processors, both discrete and embedded, both mobile and desktop, is rapidly decreasing since the second quarter of 2021.
Then a sharp decline occurred in the third quarter, then in 2022, the market was relatively stable until the first quarter of this year, but after that again began to actively decline.
This is likely due to the economic and geopolitical instability in the world.Analysts expect that next year, sales of graphics processors will fall even more.
In 2024 the market will be steadily low, and the recovery will begin only in 2025.
But the growth will not be too significant.
These are tough times for the PC market: demand for PCs soared during the pandemic, and now the need for them is severely diminished.
The GPU market has been heavily influenced by mining, which has driven high discrete graphics sales.
Now the market is flooded with cheap used video cards from miners, and there are a lot of new gas pedals in stores now, but some are asking too much.
