Lenovo ThinkBook 16p Gen 2 (20YM000BRU) laptop review: from office to studio

Lenovo ThinkBook 16p Gen 2 (20YM000BRU) laptop review: from office to studio

Lenovo ThinkBook 16p Gen 2 (20YM000BRU) laptop review: from office to studio

Lenovo's ThinkBook series of laptops is primarily associated with versatile machines without claims to high performance and a wealth of features.
But the new ThinkBook 16p Gen 2 is not only and not so much for office workers as for creators of digital content.
This is evidenced by the powerful hardware and the large, 16-inch screen.
Recently, many manufacturers have started using panels of this size instead of the usual 15.6 inches, and the ThinkBook 16p Gen 2 illustrates another positive shift: from a 16:9 aspect ratio to the more comfortable and space-efficient 16:10.However, these superficial characteristics alone are not enough to guarantee the ThinkBook 16p Gen 2 an unqualified success.
Let's look at what Lenovo engineers have managed to do perfectly and what still needs to be worked on in the inevitable Gen 3 version.
⇡#Technical specifications, pricesThe ThinkBook 16p Gen 2 comes in a configuration with a six-core Ryzen 5 5600H CPU or one of the eight-core models - Ryzen 7 5800H or Ryzen 9 5900HX, which differ from each other in the clock frequencies of the x86 cores and integrated video core.
All listed processors, according to the specifications, develop power up to 54W, but, as the tests will show, Lenovo has given the CPU additional acceleration through a small overclocking. In addition to the powerful CPU ThinkBook 16p Gen 2 has a discrete video core GeForce RTX 3060 with 6GB of video memory.
The power consumption of RTX 3060 can vary from 60W to 115W.
But since the ThinkBook 16p Gen 2 is quite compact and slim, the TBP of the video adapter is fixed at 80 W.Otherwise, the ThinkBook 16p Gen 2 does not allow for much variability in the components.
Judging by the description of the machine on the manufacturer's website and the configurations available at retail, the amount of RAM is 16 or 32 GB, and the SSD is 512 GB or 1 TB.Although some laptops with 15-16 inch screen size can boast the maximum capacity that airlines allow for carry-on baggage (99 W⋅h), Lenovo limited itself to a more compact battery of 71 W⋅h.

This does not affect the weight of the device (about 2 kg), but contributes to the increased rigidity of the material under the keyboard and screen cover, although the display itself is not laminated (and not sensitive to touch).
The ThinkBook 16p Gen 2 has an easy single-handed opening and a flip-up lid that can be opened up to 180°.
The 16\" dot matrix is becoming increasingly popular, but the thin bezels on the sides don't make it look as though it's as big as typical 15.6\" devices.
In addition, the screen has a 16:10 aspect ratio instead of the prevailing 16:9, so the horizontal indentation from the edges of the cover is also obtained less than usual.
The coating of the screen is matte.
Laptop manufacturers have long ago learned how to assemble screens in thin frames, but the task of placing the webcam still does not have a perfect solution.
HUAWEI and HONOR hide it in the keyboard, Apple had to cut out a piece of the screen, well, Lenovo settled the lens in a small ledge of the screen cover.
The webcam has a sliding shutter and an optional biometric user authentication function.A characteristic design feature of Lenovo gaming laptops, which is borrowed by ThinkBook 16p Gen 2, is that the axis of their screen hinges is shifted forward.
Thus, part of the bottom half of the chassis always remains in view.
At the top there are LED indicators that indicate the positions of the three connectors - power and two USB Type-A ports.
But the symbols light up only when the laptop is plugged into the socket, so you still have to look for the input for the power cable by touch.
The ThinkBook 16p Gen 2 has an excellent keyboard.
It has a number block and the character keys, except for the long-suffering \"~\", have

Xiaomi and Lenovo are not leaving Russia, this is fake news from the Western press, experts say

More recently, most specialized resources specializing in news about technology and technology said that Xiaomi and Lenovo have allegedly decided to \"quietly\" leave the russian market, fearing pressure from the West.
advertisementThis information was based on an article by the Wall Street Journal, whose journalists referred to their internal sources.
American journalists claimed that supplies of Lenovo and Xiaomi equipment to Russia would soon stop as the companies decided to stop doing business in Russia, but did not want to declare it publicly.
Nevertheless, they have initiated the process of winding down their business structures in Russia.Leading Russian experts working closely with major online electronics retailers made a joint statement that this information is completely fake, the real picture of what is happening is completely different. No Chinese major brands are not leaving Russia, just at the turn of March-April there were logistics and payment problems, which managed to adequately solve.
Now it turns out that the market is receiving shipments of goods from these manufacturers, which were ordered back in February.
It is already clear that costs have arisen, which have fallen on the shoulders of customers and suppliers due to the changed logistics coverage, but all the equipment has arrived, there is no shortage of smartphones or laptops or anything else. The main problem of interaction between the Chinese and Russian companies selling Xiaomi and Lenovo is to agree on mutual payments. Many payments, which previously were in dollars and euros, now seriously hampered, had to, in fact, build new financial chains between the longstanding traders. If it is revealed that Chinese companies do supply \"banned\" semiconductors and other equipment to Russia, the Americans are ready to fine these companies and deprive them of their advanced technology in the future. For the post there is a rewardThis material was written by a site visitor, and there is a reward for it.

The updated Legion 5i Pro is based on 12th generation Intel Alder Lake processors. The most advanced of the chips available in the new products is the Core i7-12700H. The Legion 5 Pro comes with Ryzen 6000 processors, which AMD introduced earlier. Both computers will offer users up to 32 GB of DDR5 RAM at up to 4800 MHz. Storage capacity can be up to 1TB. Lenovo did not disclose the models of GPUs that will be used in the new products, saying only that they will be NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30xx series. Specifications show that at least one of the laptops will get 8GB of graphics memory, indicating it will use a GeForce RTX 3070 or RTX 3070 Ti. Lenovo said the flagship Legion laptops will feature the latest Coldfront 4.0 cooling system, which will be significantly quieter and provide more efficient heat dissipation than the CO in previous generation laptops. This will allow the latest gaming notebooks to keep the GPU running at a high frequency for longer. The Legion 5 Pro and 5i Pro feature a 16-inch IPS display with WQHD+ resolution and 240Hz refresh rate and 16:10 aspect ratio. The maximum brightness of the screen is 500 cd/m2. Lenovo is preparing a gaming laptop with AMD Ryzen 7 5800H and Radeon RX 6600M

Lenovo is preparing a gaming laptop with AMD Ryzen 7 5800H and Radeon RX 6600M

Network informant rogame found information about an unknown gaming laptop from Lenovo with AMD Ryzen 5000H series processor. The novelty is interesting because it is equipped with a Radeon RX 6600M graphics gas pedal.

An unknown Lenovo laptop powered by Ryzen 7 5800H and Radeon RX 6000 mobile graphics appeared in the database of the performance test UserBenchmark. Unfortunately, the source does not specify the model of the laptop, so the novelty can refer to any series of laptops from the manufacturer, from IdeaPad Gaming models and ending with a purely gaming series Legion.

It should be recalled that the company already offers IdeaPad and Legion models based on Ryzen 5000H processors, but all of them are equipped with NVIDIA Ampere graphics gas pedals. The illuminated laptop hints that Lenovo may be preparing its first notebook based solely on components made by AMD. VideoCardz portal notes that different power requirements for AMD Radeon RX 6000M mobile graphics cards compared to NVIDIA GeForce RTX should not be a problem, as even the Legion 5 Pro gaming notebooks are designed to support GPUs with a TDP of up to 140 W. To recap, Radeon RX 6600M graphics card is based on the Navi 23 GPU with 1792 stream processors. This graphics card is designed to play games at high-medium settings at 1080p resolution. According to AMD, the gas pedal is able to compete with the mobile version of GeForce RTX 3060.

Despite the fact that AMD introduced this graphics card more than a month ago, so far none of the laptop manufacturers have not released a device with the novelty. Moreover, the card is not even listed in Radeon drivers, which may indicate a delay in its release. Thus, AMD's earlier statements that the graphics card is supposedly «already delivered» most likely serve only as a diversion.
